Deals and Revelry, Quin’s Backstory

The lovely @fyrenwater requested some more pieces for Deals and Revelry and I started with Quin’s backstory. Hopefully it’s a fun read! With Quin there is of course a warning ahead for implied murder.

***

The temple was old and not in the broken, long abandoned kind of way, overgrown and damp and too dangerous to enter. Quin had seen plenty of old places, had walked through plenty of runes. He lived for the danger, made a living out of going where no one else wanted to thread.

The upper temple had looked like one would expect, half swallowed by the swamp, covered with plants and little pieces of walls and fallen pillars stuck out of the knee-deep water and morass.

He had even found the remains of a statue’s face, nearly whittled to be unrecognizable by time and the environment.

The place clearly had been looted to hell and back, but something had felt different. Something had compelled him to stay. So he had looked around, using every single ounce of his talent and bullheaded tenacity until he had found it three days later. A hidden entrance.

Hello! Hope you're having a good morning/night. I just wanted to say I finished Perfect Nemesis and I loved it! Your writing style is so tasty (I hope this doesn't sound weird, it's just really good). I noticed a parallel with Imagination and the villain that cursed them, the curse can't be removed if the one that's cursed wants the person to remove it. Just like how Nameless Villain wanted to be saved, but no one did.

Hi there, I hope you have a wonderful time of day as well! And thank you so much, I’m very happy that you liked Perfect Nemesis =D As well as my writing style! (don’t think it sounds weird, for the record, I’m glad you enjoyed my story!)

And yes, well spotted! That was what the whole curse of the villain was built around, he wanted to repay the pain he felt and has felt for so long. Imagination never could have gotten rid of the curse while one, knowing about its removal and two, agreeing to it. It had to be taken just like the villain’s hope in saviors had been taken and destroyed.

I honestly do not think “AI will never be as good as human creativity” is a good argument at this point. Like yes, it is true right now, but they’re just going to keep trying to prove it wrong. To me the line is, “Modern AI is built off of PLAGIARISM, UNPAID and UNDERPAID labor.” AI is a labor rights issue, not just for the people who’s labor it would replace, but for the people whose labor was STOLEN for the AI to “create” anything.

I saw a post saying that Boromir looked too scruffy in FotR for a Captain of Gondor, and I tried to move on, but I’m hyperfixating. Has anyone ever solo backpacked? I have. By the end, not only did I look like shit, but by day two I was talking to myself. On another occasion I did fourteen days’ backcountry as the lone woman in a group of twelve men, no showers, no deodorant, and brother, by the end of that we were all EXTREMELY feral. You think we looked like heirs to the throne of anywhere? We were thirteen wolverines in ripstop.

My boy Boromir? Spent FOUR MONTHS in the wilderness! Alone! No roads! High floods! His horse died! I’m amazed he showed up to Imladris wearing clothes, let alone with a decent haircut. I’m fully convinced that he left Gondor looking like Richard Sharpe being presented to the Prince Regent in 1813

Some people have been wondering about the raccoon. Listen. Listennn. Don’t ask about the raccoon.

But does the racoon survive the Uruk-Hai? Does he curl up on Aragorn’s head, or does he go straight to Faramir? Does he bite Denethor?

My friend. My colleague. My brother my captain my king. I too have been pondering this question, and in my mind there can be only one ultimate outcome.

All hail the High Warden of Gondor.

Epilogue: It ADORES Faramir.

I’m going to wear this on my head like a raccoon and show everyone

Last song you listened to: “Welly Boots” by The Amazing Devil. I can recommend that song as well as the song “The Horror and The Wild” that they recorded.

Currently Reading: Aside from Ao3 stories I’m currently reading “The Girl Who Drank the Moon” by Kelly Barnhill and so far I love it and it’s incredibly pleasant to read as well.

Currently Watching: I have to catch up on the newest season on shows such as Demon Slayer, The Dragon Prince, The Witcher and I re-watched Avatar the Way of Water a couple of nights ago.

Current Obsession: Baldur’s Gate 3 is very quickly climbing the ranks of me really getting hyper fixated. But aside from that, I’m currently actually really focused on my writing since I have some things planned that should be revealed soon =)
